Warm Homes: Local Grant
up to £30,000

£15,000 for energy efficiency measures, plus up to £15,000 towards low carbon heating

The flagship scheme for privately owned homes in England, funded by central government but delivered by your council. Runs to 31 March 2028.

Official guidance
  • Property in England with an EPC rating of D to G
  • Owner-occupied or privately rented
  • Low income household — most councils use a £36,000 threshold or benefits receipt
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
£7,500

£7,500 for an air or ground source heat pump, £5,000 for a biomass boiler, £2,500 for air-to-air

A flat grant towards replacing fossil fuel heating with a heat pump or biomass boiler. There is no income test at all, which makes it the one large grant most households can actually use.

Official guidance
  • Property in England or Wales
  • Replacing an oil, gas, electric or LPG heating system
  • Valid EPC with no outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations
  • Applied for by your MCS-certified installer, not by you
Energy Company Obligation 4
Fully funded

Funded by the large energy suppliers rather than government. Covers insulation, heating repairs and first-time central heating. Extended to 31 December 2026.

Official guidance
  • Property rated EPC D or below
  • On qualifying means-tested benefits, or referred by your council under ECO Flex
  • Applies to owner-occupied and privately rented homes
